FEMA requires applicants for any Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) to notify the public twice of the proposed action.

  • For 201 Bolick Street, the first notice was in the June 23rd edition of the Georgetown Times.
  • For 2019 Asbury Street, the first notice was posted in the September 6th edition of the Georgetown Times.

These posts on the City of Georgetown website will pose as the second public notices.  Please see the responses and answers to questions from FEMA’s requirements in the documents below.

BZA Board Members Needed

The Housing & Community Development Department is always looking for citizens to serve on one of our community boards.  The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is in immediate need of a couple board members due to the resignation of current members.  Applicants should contact the Housing & Community Development Department at (843) 545-4010 for requirements and application.  Please help the City of Georgetown by serving your community.

The City received an email early this morning from the vendor it used to purchase Eclipse Glasses. An excerpt from the email is below.

 

Due to the recent media frenzy regarding suppliers of Eclipse Glasses we would like to advise you.

Like any good online distributor we use only trusted suppliers that have either good history with ourselves, or have been recommended via our trade association. These rules were adhered to when supplying the custom Eclipse Glasses.

After recent discussions with our supply chain they have confirmed that the goods meet their standards. However, due to issues with the product’s certification, we have decided that we would like to carry out our own tests to give our customers extra peace of mind. Unfortunately due to the time-span we are now unable to carry out these tests before the eclipse this coming Monday.

Therefore we recommend that customers do not use the glasses and make contact with our team to arrange a full refund.

Therefore, the City urges all persons who picked up glasses (pictured below) from City Hall, Fire Station 1 and the Police Department, to adhere to the email above. The City did its due diligence by verifying with the vendor that the glasses did “hold ISO certification and so are completely safe to use” in a July 24th, 2017 correspondence prior to purchasing them.

The City has a very small quantity of glasses from another vendor that can be picked up at City Hall this morning. The City sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience that this vendor has caused at this late hour and wants to ensure the safety of its employees, citizens and visitors.

Temporary Resignation of City Administrator, Paul Gardner, for Purposes of PORS Retirement

GEORGETOWN, S.C. ‐ Georgetown City Council approved a new employment contract at last Thursday’s Council Meeting for City Administrator, Paul Gardner. The new contract outlined a termination of Mr. Gardner’s previous contract effective August 2, 2017, for a period of 30 days, in order to allow him to retire with the SC Public Employment Benefit Authority (PEBA) Police Officer Retirement System (PORS) and then a provision to rehire him effective September 4th, 2017.

Mr. Gardner meets the SC PEBA PORS Class Two Member retirement eligibility requirements of being age 55 or older on the date of retirement with at least five years of earned service credit.

The 30 day termination of Mr. Gardner’s contract is required by the SC PEBA, in order to satisfy the 30 day break of service requirement in order for Mr. Gardner to return to active employment. During this temporary separation of employment, Mr. Gardner will not be representing the City in any official capacity.

In the interim, Council has appointed City Finance Director, Debra Bivens, as acting administrator for the period of August 3, 2017 through September 3, 2017. All inquiries regarding City business should be directed to Ms. Bivens at 843-545-4036 or dbivens@cogsc.com.

Public Notice

Hearing on City of Georgetown, SC FY 2017/2018 Budget and Rate Adjustments

Pursuant to Section 6-1-80 of the S.C. Code of Laws, public notice is hereby given that The Council for The City of Georgetown will hold a public hearing on June 15, 2017 at 5:30 pm.  The hearing will be held at the City Municipal Courtroom (2222 Highmarket Street).

The purpose of the hearing is to allow citizens to express their views regarding the proposed:

  1. FY 2017/18 Budget.
  2. Operating Tax Millage increase from 93 mils to 95 mils.
  3. Utility rate adjustments for water, wastewater, stormwater and wastehaulers.
  4. Application Fee for the Rehabilitation Property Tax Assessment for historic and low and moderate income rental properties.

The operating budget for The City of Georgetown for the upcoming Fiscal Year begins on July 1st, 2017.  The regular meeting of City Council will follow.

 

Public Notice – Sewer Force Main Break – Front & Seaboard Street

Public Notice

The City of Georgetown Water Department has completed repairs on the sewer force main break that occurred yesterday at Front and Seaboard Street.

The area of the Sanitary Sewer Overflow is in the process of being cleaned and disinfected to minimize any public health threat from this incident. Public health agencies have been notified.

Please continue to refrain from coming into contact with this area.

Water Main Repair – Tuesday, June 6, 2017

The City of Georgetown Water Utilities Deptartment is completing a water main repair today, June 6. This repair requires partial or complete closure of the entrance/exit at the Walmart Plaza at the traffic light on N. Fraser St. The southern entrance/exit will remain open. We apologize for any inconvenience.
